Nominee – BBC Radio Solent ‘Make a difference awards 2025’
We’re so pleased to have been nominated for the BBC Radio Solent ‘Make a difference awards 2025’! Thank you to whoever nominated us we really appreciate your support.
This is the lovely submission:
The FYT (“Freshwater, Yarmouth & Totland”) bus is a godsend to our local community. It is entirely run by volunteers and is a community bus in every sense of the word. It runs around all the back streets of this rural area, often into the back of beyond! You can pick it up at a bus stop, or hail it outside your house: you can book the FYT taxi to take you to specific destinations, including the hospital/doctor/dentist. If you have difficulty getting to a main bus stop, or getting on and off big buses, the FYT bus is invaluable. Each bus has a “companion” to help you on and off and the driver gets as close to your house as possible so you don’t have to walk far. Everyone is cheerful, helpful and friendly. It’s a proper community service and is an absolute lifeline to many. .;
